Workshop led by Anne McLaughlin, artist and member of Open Mind Zen

In this unique workshop, participants will use a combination of writing, calligraphy, drawing, painting and collage to create a series of visual studies responding to two familiar Zen koans.

What was your original face before your parents were born?

Chiyono’s bucket:
In this way and that I tried to save the old pail,
Since the bamboo strip was weakening and about to break.
Until at last the bottom fell out.
No more water in the pail!
No more moon in the water!

Open Mind Zen will provide the essential materials, including blank art journals with paper suitable for mixed-media applications, glue sticks, paper and other scraps, water color paint sets, brushes, pencils, pens, oil pastels, printouts of images and text and assorted odds and ends.
